Basic definition and structural composition
Block Board is a man-made board with natural wood strips as the core material and two layers of veneer hot-pressed on the outside. The core material is usually made of solid wood strips of moderate hardness such as pine, poplar, and fir, arranged in the same direction, and then glued with the surface veneer or decorative veneer to form a three-layer or multi-layer structure.
Multilayer board (plywood) is a staggered arrangement of several layers of solid wood veneer, vertically stacked vertically and horizontally, and glued together by high temperature and high pressure. Its structure is usually an odd number of layers, and the fiber direction is staggered up and down to improve the overall dimensional stability and deformation resistance.
Differences in core material structure
The core of Block Board is a whole strip of solid wood core material, with neatly arranged core strips and a length that runs through the entire board. This structure makes the overall bending strength of the board higher and the nail holding force excellent, which is particularly suitable for furniture products and decoration parts with high requirements for structural mechanical properties.
The core layer of the multilayer board is a continuous veneer, and its thickness generally ranges from 0.8 to 2.0 mm. Since the single board layers are arranged crosswise to form a "crisscross" structure inside the board, the multi-layer board has strong resistance to warping and internal stress, and is suitable for occasions that require large-area paving and finishing.
Fiber direction and structural directionality
The core strip of Block Board runs through the entire board longitudinally, so its mechanical properties are superior in the longitudinal direction and are suitable for use in load-bearing parts. For example, for parts such as bookcase side panels, door core panels, and structural frames, Block Board can provide strong support and stability.
Due to its staggered stacking structure, multi-layer boards have strong mechanical balance in both the longitudinal and transverse directions. It is suitable for use as panels, veneer substrates, structural fillings, etc., and is more versatile in application scenarios with unspecified force directions.
Anti-deformation performance and dimensional stability
The deformation of Block Board is greatly affected by the moisture content of the core material, the uniformity of gluing, and the quality of the wood strips. If the manufacturing process is advanced and the core strips are fully dried, good dimensional stability can be achieved. Our company has significantly reduced the warpage and moisture fluctuation of the board and improved the overall flatness through high-frequency pre-drying process and finger-jointed wood core arrangement technology.
Because of its staggered structure, multi-layer board naturally offsets the stress changes caused by wet expansion and shrinkage, so it shows good stability in high humidity environment. It is often used in floor baseboards, wallboard substrates and other application scenarios with extremely high requirements for deformation control.
Environmental protection level and formaldehyde emission
Block Board uses a large area of solid wood core strips, the gluing area is relatively small, and the amount of adhesive used is less. Under the same production process, its formaldehyde emission is usually lower than that of multi-layer board. In particular, products using E0 grade urea-formaldehyde glue or MDI formaldehyde-free glue have excellent environmental performance and are suitable for customers with high requirements for indoor air quality.
Because multi-layer board has more layers, gluing between each layer is essential, so the glue content per unit volume is higher than that of Block Board. If the control is not strict, the risk of formaldehyde release is greater. Our company's multi-layer board also uses a high environmental protection glue system, and strictly controls the release amount in accordance with national standards to ensure customer safety.
Nail holding power and construction performance
Block Board has a strong nail holding power because its core material is a whole piece of solid wood, which is convenient for secondary processing and installation. For example, in furniture structures, the process operations such as screwing and nail gun fixing have good effects and are not easy to loosen after long-term use. The core strips of our company's Block Board are arranged tightly, without voids and debonding, ensuring that there is no core explosion or breakage during construction.
Multilayer boards are slightly inferior to Block Boards in nail holding performance due to their thinner veneer thickness, especially when nailing at the edge, they are prone to edge collapse. Suitable for application scenarios that require high finishing quality but low structural load-bearing requirements.
Surface bonding ability and aesthetics
Block Board has high surface flatness and is suitable for various veneer materials (such as melamine paper, veneer, PVC film, etc.). The panel is evenly glued, does not bulge, does not penetrate glue, and the subsequent veneer layer is firm and not easy to fall off.
Multilayer boards may have fine surface ripples caused by uneven stress after veneering due to the different texture directions of their veneer layers. They need to be polished, leveled, and other processes to achieve high-grade finishing standards.
Differences in usage and application advantages
Block Board is widely used in high-end furniture, wardrobes, wooden doors, cabinets, background walls, ceilings, wall panels and other fields, and is particularly suitable for projects with dual requirements for mechanical strength and environmental performance. Our company's Block Board supports customization of various specifications, uniform thickness, core strips without hollows or cracks, and can meet various deep processing needs.
Multilayer boards are mainly used in floor bases, wood veneer bases, panel furniture frames, partition boards and other fields, and focus more on dimensional stability and large-area paving needs. Our company's multilayer boards also use high-quality raw materials and advanced equipment to ensure that the board structure is stable and meets environmental standards.
